Privacy policy
Last updated: 7 November 2026
This policy explains what information AskTeko collects, why, how it is stored and protected, who it is shared with, and how you can see or delete it. It covers the website askteko.com, the AskTeko learning app and sign-in at auth.askteko.com.
Who we are
AskTeko is a digital product of PPT-Design Ltd, a company in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). PPT-Design Ltd is the data controller for the information described here. Contact us at privacy@askteko.com.
Accounts are for parents and guardians
Only adults aged 18 or over can create an AskTeko account. Children never sign up themselves and never need an email address or password: a parent or guardian adds a learner profile for each child inside their own account.
Information we collect
From you, the parent or guardian
- Account details: your first name, email address and password. Passwords are handled by Amazon Cognito and are never visible to us.
- Family details: your country, so school years are named the way your school names them, and a 4-digit kids view PIN, which we store only in scrambled (hashed) form.
- Your choices: whether you want occasional product news (off unless you tick the box).
About each learner you add
- A nickname you choose, their school year and Cambridge stage, the subjects they study and their learning goal.
- Their school’s name, only if you choose to add it. Only you can see it.
- The devices they use AskTeko on: the type of device (for example “iPad”) and when it was added and last used, so you can see and remove them.
- Their learning activity in AskTeko: lessons opened, answers given, hints used and progress.
We do not ask for a child’s full name, email address, photo, location or date of birth, and children never need a password. A child’s device is signed in with a one-time code you create; you can sign any device out from your family home.
Automatically
- Basic technical records needed to run and secure the service, such as the time of a request and error reports. We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Information from Google sign-in
If you choose Continue with Google, Google shares the following with AskTeko, with your permission:
- your email address and whether Google has verified it;
- your first name (and the name on your Google profile);
- a Google account identifier, used only to recognise you when you sign in again.
We use this information only to create your AskTeko account, sign you in and greet you by name. We request only the basic openid, email and profile permissions. We do not access your Gmail, contacts, Drive, calendar or any other Google data, and we never see your Google password.
We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the service providers listed below that run AskTeko for us. You can remove AskTeko’s access at any time from your Google Account (Security, then Third-party apps with account access), and you can delete your AskTeko account as described below.
AskTeko’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use information
- To create and run your account, sign you in and keep it secure.
- To set up each learner’s course, personalise lessons and practice, and show you their progress.
- To check and improve the quality of our lessons, questions and hints.
- To send account emails, such as sign-up codes, sign-in codes and password resets. Product news is sent only if you opt in.
We never sell personal data, never show adverts, and never use children’s data for marketing or for profiling unrelated to their learning.
Our lawful bases (UK GDPR)
We use account and learning information to provide the service you asked for (contract); to keep AskTeko secure and improve it (legitimate interests, always weighed against children’s best interests); and to send product news only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who we share information with
Only with service providers that run AskTeko for us under contract, and only as much as they need:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): sign-in (Amazon Cognito), the learner database (Amazon DynamoDB), email sending (Amazon SES) and website hosting (Amazon S3 and CloudFront), in AWS’s US East (N. Virginia) region.
- Google: only if you choose Continue with Google, as described above.
- Cloudflare: our domain name service.
We may disclose information if the law requires it. Because AWS stores data in the United States, we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires for international transfers.
How we protect information
All traffic uses encrypted HTTPS connections. Stored data is encrypted by AWS. Each parent can reach only their own account and learners, and access by our team is limited to what is needed to run and support the service.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and learner profiles while your account is open. When you delete your account, your account and every learner profile are removed straight away, and remaining copies in backups are cleared within 35 days, unless the law requires us to keep a record.
Deleting your data
Sign in and choose Delete my account on your family home. You can also remove a single learner there, or email privacy@askteko.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or restrict how we use it. Email privacy@askteko.com and we will reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies and browser storage
We use only what’s needed to keep you signed in and remember simple preferences, such as whether Teko’s sound is on. These are stored in your browser and don’t track you across other websites. We don’t use advertising cookies.
Children’s privacy
AskTeko is designed with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code in mind: high privacy by default, minimal data, no adverts, no public profiles or open chat, and no features designed to keep children online for longer.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will tell account holders by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
